Ottawa Chiropractor | Dr. Kathryn M. Flaherty
Hello! My name is Dr. Kathryn M. Flaherty.
I have been a Doctor of Chiropractic for 18 years. I am a 1995 graduate of Palmer College of Chiropractic, in Davenport Iowa. I have an additional 3 year degree in the fields of Pediatrics and Pregnancy; I hold a certificate in the field of Spinal Trauma. I am a native to the Illinois Valley, born in Ladd, Il, graduated High school from Princeton, Il. I currently live in LaSalle, with my 3 German Shepherds and one crazy cat.
That’s all the stats on me, but what you really need to know when picking a chiropractor for yourself or your family is that I love what I do! I get to help people every day. My youngest patient was 5 minutes old- my oldest patient was 94 years young. I get to help make changes to their bodies therefore affecting all the other avenues of their lives.
Pain is not normal
I can help change the ache and pains that so many people “accept” as “normal”. I find it sad when I ask a patient about headaches and they say the “usual” headache, or that they get a headache 2-3 times a week. And they accept that as normal. Pain is not normal- it’s our bodies way of saying there is something WRONG! Life is short, why live in pain? Why accept so much less than what’s available?
But chiropractic care is so much more than just about reducing pain. It is about the body working to its fullest potential. So many people think about chiropractors as only working on necks and backs. Ha! That’s just the tip of the list- I have asthma patients, I have babies with croup, GERD, poorly nursing, I have pregnant moms, I have athletes with ankle sprains, I have patients that have colds, sinus issues, and the list goes on. And do you know what? They all do amazing with chiropractic care!
Chiropractic – the natural way
I am also so truly amazed at the “fear” people have of seeing a Chiropractor. Most of my patients after their first adjustment (that’s what we call it- it’s not a crack or a crunch- that’s sometimes the sound that’s created), first say “That’s it? I thought there would be more.”, then they say “Wow! I do feel better already!”. I’m not sure what they think we are going to do to them, but their fear far exceeds what actually happens.
The other concern I hear- that Chiropractors keep making you come back for care. Well, why not? Why not continue to feel great EVERY day of your life! I personally get adjusted about every 3 weeks, sometimes more sometimes less, It depends on what I’ve done to myself. I have been a patient since I was 14 years old. I have been fortunate to have good health, but attribute that to getting adjusted and making sure my body is working for me instead of against me, which is really what happens most of the time.
So, this is me. I think most of my patients will say I’m honest, trustworthy but most of all caring and truly dedicated to helping them find health. If you have any health care concerns or wonder how chiropractic care can improve the quality of your life, please call me, I’d be glad to help you in whatever way I can.
